Since it has been so cold outside we have let Alyssa ride her bike inside and she loves it. The only problem is her favorite thing to do is to run into people. After she ran into me twice after I told her not to, her reply was "But it is fun!!" She really has a personality and it is so fun to watch.
For Christmas I got a nice 10" compound Miter Saw and I love it. I have wanted to make my own furniture for a while and so what better way to start the new year than with some new furniture. On www.ana-white.com they have plans for furniture that you can use, just make your shopping list, get your wood, cut your wood, put together and color with stain or paint and enjoy. So my first project was this coffee table. We have needed one so much and I am so proud of this. I did all the cutting and the putting together of the table. Eric helped sand, stain and polyurethane it and it looks so good.
The only problem is that I can't stand the smell of the polyurethane and it stinks when you sit by the table. I am hoping that smell goes away soon. Other than that, we are so proud of ourselves. We can look forward to more new furniture this year.
On my list of this to do is a media center, sofa table, side table, bed for Alyssa and possibly a bed for us. It would be awesome also to do a dresser or something but we'll see.
Here's what I've learned though about this process:
Don't use wood filler if you are using a stain. The filler doesn't take as well which is why my coffee table looks like it has leprosy or something.
Measure 145 times before cutting or putting together. Some ends didn't match as well as I'd like but I still like it.
Other than that, we are looking forward to more adventures with wood!!
