Trip to Newport - Parents Get Away - NO KIDS ALLOWED!!!

My sweet parents came over from Australia and insisted that while they were here, they'd watch the kids for a couple nights while Eric and I went away for the weekend. We have never been away from the kids for more than just a date since becoming parents 7 years ago, so this was very needed.

We headed out to Newport and went Whale Watching. It was so cute to see a mommy and baby whale. We saw their sprays of water and their spiney backbone. It was neat. After that we went to lunch and then headed to the hotel. On the way we stopped by a view point and found some cute little trails. We headed down a trail and found a broken fence down a rocky embankment. We walked down the rocks and sat there watching the waves crash and enjoying the fresh clear weather and the ocean smell. While we were doing that, a little seal just swims right by us no more than 20 feet away. He just looked at us as he swam on to find his friends. It was great.

That night we walked out on a really long and rocky jetty. We were probably the last people in the US to see the sunset and it was so amazing.

The next morning was Sunday and it was really weird not being woken up by my three babies. We slept most of the morning and then by 3 in the afternoon, we finally got out the door and went for a run up to a lighthouse. It was about 3-4 miles away. All I wanted to do was run on the beach and it was great.

This is the lighthouse we ran too and there were so many amazing views!!

Walking back to the hotel we met this little fella!!

Monday we tried to go kayaking in the ocean but quickly learned we are not cut out for that stuff so we walked our kayak back to the shop and tied it to the car. Then we found a cute river to kayak down. We went for about 3 hours and enjoyed every minute kayaking through a bird sanctuary. We saw a beaver and jumping fish.

This was a great weekend and we will definitely do it before the next 7 years are up!!! These are my iphone pics. I have more on the camera!
