Apparently we live in a place that doesn't get much snow so what's the point in getting a snow shovel? Well, if it wasn't for the fact we brought one with us when we moved we would be S.O.L. right now!! These past two days have been filled with wind, snow, wind, ice, wind, snow and more wind. The first picture is the backyard with snow drifts up to 3 feet but in general there is about 12-16 inches of snow everywhere. Now, for most people from Utah and those places this isn't a lot but here it is. So much so, that schools have shut down yesterday, today and tomorrow. I think it is more the ice and wind that just about knocks you over. We've had wind blowing at about 30-50mph. This is a tree in our front yard. For some reason I love the look of snow on trees. It just looks so peaceful.
Alyssa helped me shovel the snow on our "Covered" front porch. We had about 8-10inches of snow on our porch when we woke up this morning.
Alyssa jumped down into the snow that I had shoveled on our path way. The snow came up to her cute little waist. She loved it!!
Another gorgeous snow covered tree.
My wonderful Eric spent about 2 hours shoveling the snow this morning on the driveway. It was so thick and heavy you could only shovel about 3-4 inches at a time. Poor guy, got a good workout though!!

Looking down our street. Our neighbors were out shoveling when we were and they had to "unbury" their car.
So fun though!! I love weather adventures like this.
The horrible part about this was that at about 10pm last night we realized that our furnace, that heats the basement and main level, had stopped working. We spent a good hour or two trying to figure it out with no luck. We figured we'd be ok because the upstairs, where we all sleep, was fine because the furnace up there was working great.

We spent a good hour or two trying to figure it out with no luck. We figured we'd be ok because the upstairs, where we all sleep, was fine because the furnace up there was working great. So after a long phone call to my Dad we decided to go to bed and call someone in the morning. This morning we woke up and downstairs was 56 degrees F (I have no idea what that is in C) So we thought we'd work a little more on it. Eric was online on an HVAC's website and talked about snow covering the intake pipe and if that happens then the furnace will shut down, safety I guess!! Well, we thought the intake was in the garage but after reviewing the manual we realized the intake was outside. So Eric put on his jacket and warm clothes and braved the outdoors to check the intake. As soon as he brushed the 2 feet of snow off the pipes, guess what happened??? The heater started working. HALLA-FREAKING-LUYAH!!! It was an answer to prayers because we didn't want to fork out a whole bunch of money. We were so grateful.
So, for some reason, if you're in a snowstorm and your furnace stops working (Crazy, because that's when you need it the most) go outside and check the intake. If it is covered in snow, brush it off!!! Hopefully that'll help, if not, then I have no idea!!
We have had fun with this snow. Eric has enjoyed a few days off work and we LOVE having him home. Poor Alyssa is going crazy, as am I, with cabin fever but hopefully we'll figure something else out to do.
