We had a beautiful afternoon at Mary's Peak hike south of Philamath, OR. It took a while to get there but it was beautiful and worth it. We invited some friends to come a long to. They have a girl a little older than Alyssa and two boys that are close to my boys age. It was a great afternoon and so fun to finally go hiking with other people.
The kids all had a great time together and got a long quite well. Alyssa didn't complain at all throughout this hike and Mason did great until the end and then we had to bribe him with McDonalds for dinner. But he is a trooper. We walked about 2 miles total, I'd say.
This hike is well known for the butterflies that are in abundance. The girls caught a blue one and took turns holding it. I told Alyssa she needed to leave it in the wild. I hope it can survive after the amount of handling it had.
We found this tree that was covered in caterpillars. It was so amazing to see all these caterpillars busy eating and getting big. It was so fascinating, they were moving and wiggling and really chowing down. Alyssa wanted to take these home too - I reminded her that was is in the wild, stays in the wild.
Then we found this grasshopper (above)
It was a great day. Looking forward to the next hike!!
