Two summers ago, on June 1st, the 1st day of Alyssa's summer break, I gave birth to our sweet baby Tyler. That summer was full of TV, sitting on the couch, feeding a baby, neglecting the older two, maybe go to the park up the road, but mostly we stayed home, indoors as I tried to navigate my new life as a mommy to three beautiful babies. I felt so badly that my children's summer had been so boring that the next summer I vowed to make my children get outside and enjoy their summer.
Last year, summer of 2014 was off to a great start. We had visited many hiking trails, made great memories, had fun with friends, learned a lot and had a great time. This all up until the middle of July when after training for a half marathon, I started getting a lot of pain in my groin no matter what I did, especially running. My hiking plans were put on hold and I later found out that I had broken my pelvis. My poor kids summer had come to a screeching halt as I was put on bed rest, crutches and absolutely nothing at all. This all with three kids under 6 years old.
This brings us to this summer. I recommitted to the kids that we will go hiking a lot and spend a lot of time outside. We have completely done this and gone to many hiking locations with many many more ahead of us. We are looking forward to this and I decided to start a blog to record our journey's along the natural trails across the country - hopefully. I would love to take them hiking across Australia too but we'll see about that one.
My new blog is hikermoms.wordpress.com but I am hoping to get it to hikermoms.com so we will see about that. Follow along with us. You can even join us for a few hikes if you'd like!!
